It's hard to study in school when your teacher beats up your fellow classmates!

March, Thursday 2. 1876.
Walked to school. Pa went out to Auburn and got another load of manure. Professor told Charley Earll to stay after school and then somebody whispered so loud that Prof heard them and he thought it was Charley grumbling, so Prof called him up and tried to lick him, but Charley would not be punished for what he had not done, so they had a lively time, and Charley got some pretty hard knocks, and Mr. Waller [a lawyer who lived nearby] interfered and Prof held up his horns, and Charley went down to show Dr. Campbell his bloody neck and hand.
